| I love the repetition of the same image of the bird to create a vivid pattern. |

| I was interested in how the use embroidery was used to add texture in this piece. I also like the combination of images to create an abstract pattern. |
These designs by Agua Bendita, a Spanish Swimwear brand, inspired me through not only their interpretation of the rainforest into a textile piece, but also through their use of the vibrant colours and intricate embroidery. I hope to use embroidery in a similar way to portray the beauty of the natural patterns which I have found through my own photography and research.
Victoria's Secret
These stunning costumes which have featured in the annual Victoria's Secret Fashion Show caught my eye. I love the interpretation of the tropical plants, feathers and flowers into 3D fashion pieces; 'wings'.
These amazing designs have inspired me to create a dramatic, eccentric piece, with vibrance and energy. I hope to achieve this by creating 3D interpretations of my observational studies and maximizing them in size to exaggerate the beauty and energy which the rainforest offers. I would love to create an extraordinary neck piece, with oversized petals and leaves to accompany a dress.
Deborah Younglao
"Colour dancing on silk."
I am intrigued by Younglao's interpretation of the relationship between the silk and the dyes. "The dyes dance together on the silk, moving and blending as they go."
Deborah Younglao views silk painting as a beautiful, elegant form of expression, a process filled with life.
"I love the way the already luminescent silk develops extra sparkle when it is dyed, and as they dry, the dyes create spontaneous and unpredictable, organic textural effects, making each piece unique."
I adore not only Younglao's passion for her work in painting on silk, but also the style and the concept of her paintings. Her studies of tropical plants of the rainforest and also her use of vibrant, energetic colours have inspired me for my experimentation work.
I want to use silk paintings to bring energy and life to my project and particularly to exaggerate the organic nature of the rainforest. I feel as though this expressive style of painting will portray the nature of my project. I am going to use brightly coloured dyes and coloured gutta to enhance the energetic and exotic tones in my work as colour is an essential factor in achieving the full individuality and vibrance of my project.
Disney's Princess Tiana by Mark Henn
This exquisite animated design by Mark Henn is a huge inspiration for my final piece. With my original intentions of creating an energetic piece inspirited by the rainforest, this gown has inspired me further.
Although animated, I feel this design has significant relevance to my project. The bodice made from short, spiked petals inspired me to create a similar bodice for my dress from petals and the layered leaf effect for the skirt with contrasting coloured leaves for the petticoat could also be interpreted into my project appropriately.
The overall manner of this dress; the expression, the energy, the drama. It's everything I want to achieve in my final piece.
A LAB MILANO.
Most fashion pieces inspired by the tropics are simply a repeated image or collage to create a pattern, but this SS collection by A Lab Milano intrigued me. It inspired me with its acknowledgement to the tropics through geometric yet organic patterns. I love how the high class fashion is maintained while injecting a nature feature.
This has inspired me to experiment by editing and collaging my own observational studies to create organic patterns like those achieved in this A Lab Milano collection.
